Animated GIF to WebP

GIF is an old format with a 256-color palette and weak compression, so animations get heavy fast. Animated WebP keeps every frame, its timing and its loop, usually at a fraction of the size. Many converters only keep the first frame — this one keeps the whole animation.

Why use GIF to WebP here

Every frame kept

Frames, frame durations, loop count and transparency are carried over to the WebP animation.

Smaller animations

Only the parts of the image that change between frames are stored again.

Private

Decoding and encoding happen in your browser, frame by frame.

Frequently asked questions

Will the animation still loop?

Yes. The GIF loop setting is copied to the WebP file. GIFs without a loop setting play once, as in browsers.

Is animated WebP supported everywhere?

Animated WebP plays in all current major browsers. Some older desktop apps may only show the first frame.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The files are read and processed by your browser on your device. They are never sent to our servers or to any third party.
